Last Friday, Word360 hosted their first sell out event for International Women’s Day.  The event was held to celebrate the work of interpreters and front-line staff who support women across the UK that cannot communicate due to language barriers.

The aim behind the event was to promote the work they and to start a conversation surrounding important topics that all kinds of women are affected by; ranging from migration, to domestic violence, to business.

The speaker line-up for the day consisted of Word360 interpreters Hee Mui Ng and Nadima Vasi and founders of the Odara Foundation, Kiran and Aysha Iqbal. The event kicked-off with a networking breakfast session, followed by the speakers discussing their proposed topics and ended with a commemorative group photo to mark the day. The two-hour event was scheduled to be jam-packed with interesting conversation, innovative thoughts and plenty of knowledge and information and did not disappoint – with most guest even exchanging contact details before leaving.

Kavita Parmar, Commercial Director of Word360, said ‘We are delighted to be able to celebrate the achievements of the women within our network who use their negative life experiences to help others.  A vast majority of women we support are from cultures and backgrounds where women are classed as inferior to men.  The work that we do highlights the need for greater focus on supporting these women and giving them the strength to break away from these ideologies.’.

Word360 helped over 200,000 vulnerable women and children in 2018 alone through their interpreting services to the NHS, councils and charities and have vowed to continue their efforts moving forward.
